Named a "Master Knitter of the 90's" by Vogue Knitting, this
New York City native has been involved in some aspect of the fashion industry
since age 13. Lily designs for magazines and yarn companies and does fabric
development and knitdowns for Seventh Avenue, from the Gap to Isaac Mizrahi.
She writes the "On Designing" column for Knitter's and the annual
"Focus on Fibers" report for Knit 'N Style. Her workshops, lectures,
and seminars on hand and machine knitting and crochet are conducted throughout
the U.S. and Canada. In early '94, Lily served as international fashion
and design consultant to the Indonesian Textile Association in Bali and
Malaysian manufacturing concerns in Kuala Lumpur. She designs many things
under the Vanna White name, including afghans for both those books. In 1999,
Lily's first book on colorful crocheted afghans will be released by Oxmoor
House. Being a token "young person who knits and crochets," she
has been featured and cited in several newspaper articles, including in
the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, Newsday, the Chicago
Tribune, and the New York Daily News for bashing the "granny"
image of handcrafts. She's been seen on cable TV's "Handmade by Design"
on Lifetime and on CNN.

An Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology,
Arnetta has been teaching upper division and seminar classes in knit design,
hand knitting and crochet since 1988. Arnetta began crocheting at a very
early age inspired by a mother who crocheted afghans for all in the family
and a sister who crocheted flower arrangements for hospital patients. While
working in the knitwear industry, Arnetta found her knowledge of crochet
very useful for finishing, especially slip stitching seams and neckline
trims.

While raising her family, many crafts including crochet became Kathleen's
hobby. Volunteer work gave her a great deal of experience in education.
Putting accounting and bookkeeping behind her, Kathleen ventured into the
world of her dreams: writing, designing and teaching crochet. After dedicating
two years to study and research, Kathleen discovered that there was a need
for concentration on the basics. A solid ground would create more consistency.
Understanding the organization of crochet itself establishes stability.
Kathleen has published The ABC's of Crochet, What Every Crocheter Should
Know, is currently writing a crochet book for children, and plans a book
for the intermediate crocheter. Crochet Basics for Beginners (6 hours, Sat AM & PM) |

Mary started crocheting in 1967 because she really needed more doll clothes.
She crocheted her first full-sized sweater in 1969 and won a ribbon in duPont's
"Golden Afghan" contest in 1973. Two of her designs won prizes
in a series of six contests sponsored by McCall's Needlework & Crafts
in 1982; Mary was the only participant to win more than once. Her articles
on crocheting fabrics that drape well and on design from the top down were
published in Threads magazine in 1987 and 1988. She offers mending and problem-solving

Unexpectedly finding herself having to teach crochet, Pauline discovered
a lack of information on crochet and was surprised to realize that the craft
of crochet (using a single hooked implement, not fingers) is actually quite
young. Pauline enjoys the versatility and variety of materials and equipment
that can be used in crochet, and its ability to combine with other crafts.
With 20 years teaching experience specializing in crochet, Pauline is a
veritable "walking encyclopaedia" of crochet and has written many
books and articles, as well as being interviewed in newspapers, and on radio
and television. In addition to offering the Diploma in Crochet course, Pauline
Turner's company, Crochet Design, produces training videos, and publishes
