International Crochet Symbols
BJ101A Reading International Crochet Symbols. Jean Blaine. Have
you ever wondered how to read those squiggles that are called International
Crochet Symbols? Then this is the class for you! Once you've mastered this
technique, you can buy pattern books from another country, and as long as
the pattern is diagramed in symbols, you can do it. Are there patterns which
seem so confusing you think there is a typo in the directions, but it's
too difficult to figure out while you are stitching? This is the solution!
Draw the pattern using the symbols, and sometimes the solution is simple
to see. Each student will receive a copy of the "101 Crochet Stitches"
book donated by the American School of Needlework.
Time: 3 hours, Friday AM
Skills Required: Knowledge of how to do all basic crochet stitches.
Homework: None.
Bring to Class: Pattern which uses basic stitches (should not contain popcorns,
bobbles, puff stitches, etc.), from the body of a sweater or an afghan square;
any weight yarn and appropriate size hook, e.g. G, H or I for worsted weight
yarn (you may wish to bring the weight yarn called for in your pattern);
grid paper, 4 squares per inch; pencil and good eraser; pattern with which
you have had problems even if you haven't resolved the problem.
Materials Fee: $3.00 for handouts and folder.

simple one-color granny square. Don't let the simplicity of the pattern
stop you from taking this class, the goal is to relax! The directions will
be interspersed with breathing techniques and soothing non-directive meditations.
If time permits, several squares will be completed and students will (hopefully)
leave refreshed.
