Your portfolio will consist of a series of labeled swatches and answers to questions.
Samples of the course requirements are:
Swatch 14: Post Stitches. 30 stitches x 12 rows using G hook.
Make a swatch incorporating double crochet front post stitches and double crochet back post stitches.Alternate them in a 1 to 1 sequence and stack them to form a rib design.
Question 13: My project requests 5 stitches and 6 rows per inch in single crochet in the suggested yarn with a G hook. I cannot achieve the gauge. What can I do? Give four options.
ALL swatches shall be made in smooth, light-colored, worsted weight yarn unless otherwise requested. Your contrast color may be a bright color if you wish. Use the same yarn for all your worsted weight samples. A few samples will be made of sport yarn or #10 crochet cotton.
Include a label from each yarn used.
Each swatch shall be labeled with your name and address, requested data, and swatch number. Use a hang tag label attached with a thread loop so every stitch is available for view.
Swatches shall be finished properly. All swatches shall be blocked (if necessary), clean, and with all ends sewn in.
All stitches shall be made through the top two loops of the stitch below unless requested otherwise.
Portfolio shall be displayed in a binder(s) with each swatch in its own protective sleeve or page protector.
Questions and answers shall be enclosed in the portfolio with the swatches. Pages may be placed back-to-back in pairs. The written work may be typed, printed or handwritten as long as it is legible.
Judging: Judging will be on a point system. Judging should be completed within 2 months of submission of portfolio. If this is not possible, you will be notified. The judge may ask for replacements of unacceptable swatches if merit is shown by other swatches. Answers to questions can not be resubmitted.
Judging Criteria: Were directions followed? Are pieces finished neatly? Is tension even through out swatch? Is tension of beginning chain or foundation row same as rest of swatch? Do answers to questions show an understanding of stitches and principles?
You are expected to work independently. Questions about individual swatches or questions will not be answered by the Education Committee or judges. You may consult reference works. These may be obtained from the CGOA library, public library, or on interlibrary loan through your public library.
