Forest of Dean Shawl
The ancient woodland of the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, England was the inspiration for this shawl. Rows of DC stitches represent a deep forest of trees, lacy shells and V stitches evoke leafy treetops and shrubberies, and the chain space line suggests a river running through the forest.
The Forest of Dean Shawl is worked as a side-to-side triangle. Starting at one side with a single V stitch, each subsequent row increases at the neckline to expand into a lower section of Lace and an upper section of DC. The final long row at the opposite end is decorated with crossed DC and lacy shells.
