Additional details

A reflection of the great Northwest, Hawthorne is a yarn inspired by the varied and vibrant place we call home. This sturdy, colorful, superwash sock yarn is made up of a blend of superwash wool for comfort and warmth and nylon for strength. Together they make a beautiful canvas for colors that range from bright and playful to moody and sophisticated. A classic high twist gives this the bounce and resilience, great for the projects Hawthorne does best: unique socks, stunning shawls, and soft yet durable accessories. It even makes beautiful garments, like sweaters and shells, where its hand-crafted colors can get the attention they deserve.

Hawthorne comes in four dye styles, each as beautiful as the next, and they mix and match beautifully for projects that use multiple colors.

Kettle Dyed – Skeins of Hawthorne Kettle Dyed are fully submerged in a large vessel, and then dye is added with minimal agitation to create beautiful semi-solid shades.
Multi – Hawthorne Multi is hand-painted to intentionally create surprising pops of color and variegation.
Tonal – To create the complex tonal colors of Hawthorne Tonal, dyes in multiple shades are hand-painted on each skein.
Speckle – Another hand-painted yarn, Hawthorne Speckle had dye speckled over each hank to create fun sprinkles of color.

Please note that due to the dye methods used, colors may vary from skein to skein.

First time using Hawthorne and I picked the Cosmic Speckle to make a light beanie in Tunisian knit stitch as it was my least favorite of the color pack I got. I gotta say, I loved every second of it! The yarn doesn't split, it's very soft, doesn't itch at all and it's wonderfully bouncy and stretchy. Someday, when I have the money and patience to work it in fingering weight, I'll make a full sweater out of one of the kettle or tonal ones I think.

Wonderful with deep, rich color. Feels good in my hands. I'd recommend it to anybody for great socks, shawls, whatever.

My first time using Hawthorne yarn . It is a gem! Color was exactly as described and the yarn just glides on your hook. I will purchase more!

I love Hawthorne and have bought many shades. There can be quite a bit of variability between skeins of the same color but I suspect this is true with much more expensive hand-dyed yarn. It's a wonderful yarn for accessories, socks, and sweaters.

The colors are bright and stay that way after soaking and blocking. My finished shawl has great stitch definition. I tried this out as a replacement for Mini Mochi by Crystal Palace, which closed down years ago. I'm very happy with the results!

I love the price and the colorways, I just wished that the yarn was softer. It's a great yarn for socks but thats about it because it is so scratchy.

I love yarn with a high twist- no splitting here. The colorways are gorgeous and don’t transfer. I just wish it came in DK and worsted weight. Love this yarn!

The yarn came very quickly, took about a week to ship to Canada. I ordered 3 different colourways and not one of them are as pictured! Luckily they were not for a particular project so it doesn't matter that they're different. They all appeared to have either bluish or purplish tones in the picture and all 3 are greenish irl! The colours are Kerns Burlingame and Arleta. Still pretty, but not what I was expecting, I would have preferred them in the tones as pictured!

I love this yarn. And it's plenty soft. I just made a scarf as a birthday gift for friend using Laurelhurst. It was a single crochet through the back loop chevron pattern. The pattern made this yarn SHINE. Because I was going back and forth through the back loop, the color change pattern was different on each side. Really beautiful. I blocked the scarf by soaking it for 15 minutes in "eucalan" and then laying it out flat to dry. When the gift was opened after my friend said, "Oh my God. It's so beautiful." She then said, "And it's so soft!".

Made a lovely pair of socks in the Nob Hill variegated yarn. I loved the color tones in this yarn. I found the socks softened considerably after a soak in soap and warm water. Im very happy with them, would use this yarn again

I'm really happy with this yarn. I'm making a mitered square blanket, the squares are app 3", and have bought every color available. Hand painted yarn is gonig to have a lot of variation in the color. Personally I find if very interesting to work with.

I bought 2 hanks of this not really knowing what my project would be. I made a 2nd pineapple shawl in Mt. Tabor and I was very pleased with the outcome. The colors were beautiful, felt great and the shawl is beautiful. I ordered another hank to make it bigger. I love everything about this yarn.
