Product information

$22.99

Description

Transform hanks or skeins into compact center-pull balls that sit nicely while you crochet. A clamp secures the ball winder to the table while you wind skeins up to 100 grams or 3.5 ounces. Best when used in tandem with a Yarn Swift.

Note: The metal yarn guide arm comes folded against the ball winder for shipping. The guide arm needs to be moved and positioned opposite the winding handle for correct operation.

I'm making a temperature blanket so have a lot of color changes. I bought this to wind up the skeins once they were closer to the end of the skein and tend to get tangled. It works great! I won't use it to wind a new skein into a cake, but for winding up skeins when they are down to the last 20-30% % or so, it works great! Easy to set up and easy to use. I did watch a few YouTube videos to make sure I used it correctly, which I recommend.

HOW DID I LIVE WITHOUT THIS!!!!!! Seriously, this is a great item. I am so happy with it. I midnight shopped when I couldn’t sleep and well… it was on sale! Lol! So happy with it. I’m sure there are those of you thinking there are better and perhaps there are but I am loving this one. Works great! My leftovers are so well organized and it brings me joy. Go ahead and treat yourself! You will love it.

It does work in making neat cakes. I found it was hard to attach to my table and came undone which was maddening. The problem may have been my table was too thick, but all the furniture in my apartment was about the same thickness. Maybe with more use it I will manage it better. Wish I had bought a higher end winder.

I like the way it works, but is not very big and won’t wind a normal skein of yarn😡

So far so good! It's my first one so I can't compare it to others, but I've had no issues with it. I love the color and it's been great to rewind yarn on projects that I've changed my mind on!

TBH I chose this brand og bc it was the only one that didn’t look like a sewing apparatus from 1970. I was thrilled when it worked both smoothly and efficiently. It’s a little noisy at fast speeds but it does a really good job, IMHO.

WORTH EVERY PENNY! I don't know why it took me so long to buy one of these! I just wound a tangled, disaster of a mess of Bernat blanket yarn (which catches on itself and gets tangled very easily!!) into the most perfect cake of center-pull yarn! It was very easy to assemble and figure out. I just had to spend several minutes loosening and untangling my self-created mess of a skein into a lose pile all over the floor so that it wouldn't tangle back up as it wound up into its new form. Worth it!! lI can't wait to use this on more of my yarn stash leftovers that aren't in the most organized state!

I found out it does not work well on a table that has a rounded edge, it works great a straight table edge. I used a swift and this ball winder together, oh how nice it was.

Most Certainly Recommend! The yarn ball winder is a God-send as I have Capel Tunnel and Arthritis. I can now make 6 to 10 cakes in about an hour without my hands and wrists hurting so bad that I can't crochet. Only wish the winder had other sizes (thing the yarn winds onto) as I have sample size yarn as well as full skeins.

I have the traditional ball winder but wanted a second one, the price of this one was good, and I thought they would be the same. They are not. This has an addition screw that is needed for the clamp, that's OK, but I worry about it breaking on the plastic head or getting lost. Then to take it apart for storage moving the tension arm means having to force it over and damages the little plastic bump it has to go over and re-bending the metal back to best position. The other issue I've had is the plastic is so slick that the ball of yarn, if it encounters any little resistance, allows the ball to go flying off the holder. You get what you pay for. I'm making it work, but it is not the quality of my other plastic winder.

I don’t understand why some customers are unhappy with this. I’ve had mine for several years and can’t tell you how many skeins of yarn I’ve wound in that time. It’s still doing a great job, making smooth balls of yarn, and on average, I use it several times a month for both my own yarn and friends, so it gets a great workout. Couldn’t be happier.

I have no idea why reviews are stating that no handle comes with the winder? Mine has a handle and works amazingly well. I love how it can be placed on any flat surface basically, it fits anywhere you can think of. I am extremely happy with this winder, much better quality and cakes than my previous crap one from Hobby Lobby. I adore it

This little winder has worked like a charm when I have a lot of large pieces of skeins to wind. I wish there were a couple of smaller sized center tube to change out for winding smaller gauge yarn. That is the only down side to this cute little helper

I like this winder but am VERY disappointed that it does not come with a handle.

Girls, I found a little comment on a forum and it helps me to discover how to fix my yarn ball winder. I’ve make a video. It’s in Portuguese but images are self-explaining. https://youtu.be/T-FCaUvHQAo

I see some scary reviews about balls flying off and noises and breakage, however for me...day one...I’m pleased.Came as part of Tame Your Yarn tool set. Within 5 minutes, I had converted a sloppy skein to a hank then to a perfect cake. Loving the swift winder combo. Glad I splurged. Will lead to more joyous yarn play.

For $20, this is fantastic! Since I don't own a yarn shop, and have only done 5 skeins at a time (most ever) - this is PERFECT! There may be a small squeak, but since it only takes a few minutes per skein - I can handle it. It is absolutely wonderful to be able to wind my own center pull balls (especially leftover scraps).

I've made a few hundred cakes on this thing now in the 3 months I've had it, and I've loved it for most things, especially acrylics from big craft stores, but I also had to disassemble the machine at one point, and, being unable to get all of it taken apart, cut 1' out of my yarn and pull it free really hard from the gears, because a loop fell off, and I didn't notice, and it went right into the gears and became a hopeless mess. I've also had a very slipper, drapey, sport weight, 70% bamboo/30% cotton skein take several hours of slipped ends lost inside, hour-long untanglings, cakes thrown across the room (2 times on the same skein!), and just about every other issue possible, *except* having it get sucked into the gears. So, I love the machine, but it can have a real temper sometimes. I've lost hours on a number of occasions to tangles I've made with it.

I am so glad I bought this! It has saved my sanity on some various difficult projects-especially ones I take out. Good to have that yarn wound up and in order, again! It squeaks a little, but it does the job.
